AI Revolution Reshapes Travel Planning as 68% of Indian Tourists Set to Use Artificial Intelligence in 2026

Artificial Intelligence is revolutionizing travel planning in India, with Agoda's 2026 Travel Outlook Report revealing that 68 percent of Indian travellers are expected to use AI for trip planning. From personalized itineraries and budget management to destination recommendations, AI is becoming a trusted tool that is transforming the future of tourism.

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly transforming the way Indian travellers plan their holidays, with a growing number of tourists relying on AI-powered tools to create smarter, faster and more personalized travel experiences. According to Agoda's 2026 Travel Outlook Report, 68 percent of Indian travellers are likely to use Artificial Intelligence to plan their next trips in 2026, underscoring the technology's expanding influence on the tourism industry.

The report highlights a dramatic shift in consumer behaviour, with one in three Indian travellers already using Artificial Intelligence to plan vacation trips. The number of travellers expected to adopt AI for future holidays is nearly double the current usage level, signalling that Artificial Intelligence has moved beyond being an emerging innovation and has become an integral part of modern travel planning.

Artificial Intelligence is increasingly being used to manage every aspect of a journey, including destination research, itinerary creation, budgeting and travel logistics. Rather than using AI merely for basic destination searches, Indian travellers are turning to advanced AI-powered travel applications for highly customized recommendations tailored to their preferences and financial plans.

The survey found that 38 percent of respondents want AI tools to suggest attractions and activities, making this the most sought-after use of the technology. Another 37 percent expressed interest in receiving personalized vacation itineraries based on information they provide to AI systems, while 29 percent said they use Artificial Intelligence to search for destinations during the planning stage.

This strong confidence reflects India's rapid digital transformation and the widespread adoption of technology across multiple sectors, including tourism. Travel applications and online platforms have become deeply embedded in consumer behaviour, especially among younger travellers who are leading the adoption of AI-driven trip planning.

Industry experts note that younger tourists are particularly attracted to Artificial Intelligence because of its ability to deliver personalized recommendations and immediate assistance. From suggesting destinations to organizing complete itineraries, AI provides a seamless planning experience that aligns with the expectations of digitally savvy travellers.

Artificial Intelligence is now influencing every stage of the travel journey, from the initial search for destinations to decisions about hotels and restaurants. AI-powered recommendation engines are helping travel companies engage more effectively with customers and improve the overall planning process.

The tourism industry is also employing predictive analytics, chatbot technology, language translation and dynamic pricing systems to enhance the travel experience. These AI-driven solutions are making holidays more convenient, engaging and efficient for tourists.

Researchers attribute the rapid progress of AI-powered travel platforms to advances in large language models, machine learning and real-time data processing. These technological improvements have made AI systems more accurate, conversational and capable of delivering increasingly sophisticated recommendations.

A major factor driving the adoption of Artificial Intelligence in tourism is the growing demand for personalized experiences. Travellers are seeking recommendations based on their interests, previous journeys and budget constraints. AI platforms allow users to input preferences for flights, accommodation, restaurants, sightseeing and transportation, and then receive a complete, customized itinerary.

According to Agoda's research, Indian travellers are especially enthusiastic about AI planning tools because they reduce uncertainty and simplify decision-making, making travel more predictable and stress-free.

Experts believe this trend could significantly accelerate tourism growth in India. With Artificial Intelligence making trip planning easier and more accessible, travellers may be encouraged to book more vacations and increasingly choose AI-powered platforms for their travel needs.

The expanding use of Artificial Intelligence in tourism is also aligned with India's broader push to adopt smart technologies across industries. As language models and machine learning systems continue to evolve, AI-driven tourism platforms are becoming more intelligent, interactive and capable of creating highly immersive travel experiences.

The findings of Agoda's 2026 Travel Outlook Report make it clear that Artificial Intelligence has become an essential part of the travel planning process. From discovering destinations and managing budgets to creating personalized itineraries and completing bookings, AI is redefining how Indian tourists prepare for their journeys.

With nearly 68 percent of Indian travellers expected to use Artificial Intelligence for trip planning in 2026, the tourism industry stands on the threshold of a technological transformation that could permanently reshape the future of travel.
